IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ISTANBUL TRAVELERS
Important information for Istanbul travelers - The Ataturk Airport will be closed at 31.12.2018 and all flights from the European side of Istanbul will arrive and depart at new IGA airport.
At 31. December all Turkish Airlines flights departing at the European side of the city will start from the new airport in Istanbul (IGA). The Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side will continue as before.
According the airport operator company TAV, the Atatürk Airport will be closed from 1.January 2019. All flights departing from the European side will start from the new airport IGA.
If you have booked a flight to Istanbul in the new year, you should contact your airline and ask for detailed information.
The new IGA airport expects to run smoothly. As usual for international flights, an arrival of 2 hours before departure will be sufficient.
The airport bus company Havaist will provide transfer to downtown Istanbul. The new airport is located about 50 km from Taksim Square and you can calculate with a transfer time of about 1.5 hours.
Even with the taxi the airport is easy to reach. For this trip, you can calculate a price of about 20-25 euros from the city center.
The Metro connection from the new IGA airport is expected to be operational from 2020.
