Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Holland show great interest in bicycle tours. By 2013, Antalya and Cappadocia regions expect over 100 thousand European cyclists.

European cyclists, who come to Turkey for training, stay an average of 18 days. As part of tour, they cycle about 78 km per day. Toni Kirsch, the president of North Rhine Westphalia Cycling Federation said that every spring, during three years, German cyclists train in Manavgat, Alanya, Gündoğmuş, İbradı, Akseki and the suburbs of Konya and Cappadocia. He added that in autumn German teams also go to Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and South Cyprus. He said that Turkey is the most unfrequented country for the German cyclists’ trainings.

Kirsch stated that European cycling sport has a half-century-old history. “In Turkey, however, the interest to cycling sport is just slowly developing. By 2013, we aim to bring about 100 thousand cyclist to Turkey. That demands an appropriate infrastructure. It requires cycling sport accommodation facilities. The roads should be designed according to the cyclists. The tracks must be marked by the direction signs in English, German, Dutch and Russian languages”, he said.
