The beaches of the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, welcoming millions of tourists each year, will be classified by assigning “the stars”.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will classify the beaches of the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts just like the hotels, assigning them “the stars”. The stars will pour to Antalya beaches, owning the world’s most prestigious tourism award “blue flag”.
After the hotels and holiday villages, Ministry of Culture and Tourism is now preparing for the beaches classification. Currently, “perfect in every respect” beaches are awarded by the “blue flags”, but their properties are not evaluated. After classifying the beaches’ quality from 1 to 5 “stars”, the Ministry will present them at international tourism fairs and in the catalogues.
Now that Turkey has 324 beaches with “blue flags”, 54% (or 174) of them belong to the beaches of Antalya, which will definitely get “5 stars” in future. In this respect, Antalya can be considered as the best holiday destination. Antalya is followed by 73 blue-flagged Muğla beaches, 28 beaches of İzmir, 20 beaches of Aydın and 17 beaches of Balıkesir. There is also world-famous Konyaaltı beach among the beaches, which are expected to get 5 stars.
Assigning the ‘stars’ to the beaches, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will regard such aspects as the presence of showers, toilets, dustbins, sun beds, parasols and extra services as well as the cleanliness of all the facilities. Thus, the Ministry is preparing for the new tourism season and tries to strengthen tourism sector.
